There's a new girl in town!

Meet Serendipity!  I'm calling her Dipity for short.  Thanks go to my friend Wendy for suggesting the perfect name.

From Wikipedia:  Serendipity means a "happy accident" or "pleasant surprise", specifically the accident of finding something good or useful while not specifically searching for it.

I'd say that fits for both of us.  I've been wanting a hen for my tom Tony for quite some time now.  But I haven't been actively seeking one out.  Dipity desperately needed a good home.  So how did this happy accident come to pass?

My friend Rachel had posted that she was about to be overrun with turkeys in 28 days when the clutch her hen is sitting on begins to hatch.  One of her friends responded that she knew someone who was looking for a home for a turkey hen.  So I got in touch with her to find out about the hen.  She referred me to her friend who in turn referred me to her neighbor who was actually the person who HAD the hen.  When I got off work, I made the hour long drive up to Vallejo to pick her up.

She's a broad breasted bronze and is about a year old.  When her former owner's home was foreclosed on, he just moved out and left her along with two geese.  All three were rescued by a neighbor down the street.  She spent her former life cooped up in a pen where the geese apparently beat up on her.  Her flight feathers were all splintered and broken.  Her tail isn't in much better shape.  But once she molts, she'll be beautiful.

She spent her first evening inside a large pen so she could get some rest and be safe.  After a day and another night, she seems quite happy and at home in her new surroundings.  She's very gentle and sweet.  Tony is smitten!  She doesn't seem to mind his flirtations.  Tony's got a girlfriend!

I'd say the whole situation is very serendipitous indeed!
Dip-a-dee-doo-dah, dip-a-dee-ay
My, oh my, what a wonderful day
Plenty of sunshine headin' my way
Dip-a-dee-doo-dah, dip-a-dee-ay
